Safety Guidance for MoD Staff

He explained that the ministry is “looking into” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however noted that security is a concern in every contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a collection of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their car, not to have conversations at a secret level in any kind of vehicle, because of the growing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to only have those confidential conversations in secure locations. That’s a wise and reasonable thing for everyone worried about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, the minister responded: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”
